Emergency crews responded to a significant structure fire Friday night near the northeastern edge of Idaho Falls, resulting in the total loss of a residence and two vehicles.
The Idaho Falls Fire Department received the call for service at 9:16 p.m. on Sept. 11. Upon arrival at the scene near North 75th East, firefighters found a manufactured home fully engulfed in flames. The fire had already extended to the front porch of the structure.
Crews encountered numerous small explosions inside the building as they began their attack. To ensure safety and allow access for apparatus, northbound traffic was temporarily shut down during the initial response phase. Firefighters deployed additional resources to combat the blaze, which threatened nearby properties.
The intense heat caused the fire to spread beyond the primary structure. Flames jumped to an adjacent property, igniting trees and dry grass in the area. The fire also reached a neighboring residence, though firefighters successfully prevented it from spreading further into that home.
No injuries were reported in the incident. One resident was evaluated by EMS personnel for potential smoke inhalation but declined medical treatment at the scene.
After extinguishing the main blaze, crews conducted extensive overhaul and mop-up operations to eliminate remaining hot spots and prevent reignition. The involved manufactured home and two vehicles parked on the property were declared total losses.
Authorities estimate the total property damage at approximately $250,000. The cause of the fire remains unknown and is currently under investigation by fire officials.
