The National Weather Service office in Pocatello issued a wind advisory on Thursday afternoon, warning residents of gusty conditions expected to impact parts of southern Idaho over the weekend.
According to data from api.weather.gov, the advisory covers the Beaverhead-Lemhi Highlands and the Arco/Mud Lake Desert regions. The alert was issued at 12:59 p.m. MDT on September 12, 2026, with conditions expected to persist through Sunday evening.
The forecast calls for southwest winds ranging from 25 to 35 miles per hour. Gusts are projected to reach approximately 45 mph during the peak of the event. The advisory is scheduled to be in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. MDT on Sunday, September 13.
Officials noted that the gusty conditions could create hazardous driving environments, particularly for high-profile vehicles such as trucks and trailers. Drivers in the affected zones are urged to exercise caution and maintain control of their vehicles.
The wind also poses a risk to unsecured outdoor objects, which may be blown around or damaged by the stronger gusts. Residents in the Beaverhead-Lemhi Highlands and Arco/Mud Lake Desert areas are advised to secure loose items before the advisory window begins.
This weather alert follows other recent safety notices in the region, including a fire weather alert that covered southern Idaho through Saturday evening. Motorists should also remain aware of road conditions following a fatal head-on crash reported earlier this week on US 26 near Irwin.
