Construction crews placed sod around newly planted trees at the Teton River Idaho Temple site on Sept. 21, marking a shift toward exterior finishing work in Rexburg.
The landscaping effort follows the planting of trees approximately two weeks prior to the sod installation. The greenery surrounds the three-story structure, which has seen significant exterior progress throughout 2026. White stone cladding now covers much of the building’s facade, and asphalt paving for parking areas began earlier this summer.
The central spire was installed on June 30, a key milestone in the temple’s vertical construction. The site spans 16.6 acres and will house a 100,000-square-foot facility upon completion.
Project Timeline
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced plans for the Teton River Idaho Temple in October 2021. Groundbreaking and the site dedication occurred on June 1, 2024. Since then, construction has advanced from foundation work to exterior detailing.
As of Sept. 29, church officials have not announced dates for an open house or the temple dedication. The facility will serve as Rexburg’s second operating temple, joining the existing Rexburg Idaho Temple.
Regional Service Area
The new temple is designed to serve members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Upper Snake River Valley. It will also provide access for students attending Brigham Young University-Idaho, which is located in Rexburg.
