The Eastern Idaho State Fair announced an official attendance count of 253,906 guests for its 2026 event in Blackfoot. The figure marks the fifth consecutive year that visitor numbers have surpassed the quarter-million threshold.
Fair officials released the data following the conclusion of the nine-day event, which ran from Sept. 4 through Sept. 12. General Manager Brandon Bird said the results demonstrate the fair’s role as a financial anchor for the region.
“These numbers confirm what we’ve always known to be true: the Fair isn’t just a beloved tradition; it’s an economic lifeline for Blackfoot and all of eastern Idaho,” Bird said.
Economic Impact Analysis
Johnson Consulting conducted an economic impact study for the fair, quantifying the financial benefits to the local area. The nine-day event generated an estimated $74.3 million in economic activity during its run. That figure includes approximately 600 jobs supported by the fair and $25.2 million in wages paid to workers.
Out-of-town visitors contributed significantly to the hospitality sector, accounting for an estimated 2,400 hotel room nights. The event also produced roughly $2 million in state and local tax revenue.
When factoring in year-round usage of the fairgrounds facilities, the total annual economic impact reaches an estimated $82.5 million. This broader calculation includes activities that occur outside the nine-day festival window.
Events and Entertainment
This year’s fair operated under the theme “Red, White and Blue Jeans,” a nod to America’s 250th anniversary. The celebration included several new additions and high-profile performances designed to draw large crowds.
Rapper Flo Rida performed on opening night, attracting what organizers described as the largest crowd since the fair expanded its schedule to nine days. The Navy Leap Frogs Parachute Team also made a notable appearance, parachuting into the Bank of Commerce Grandstand to kick off the Gem State Classic Pro Rodeo.
The 2026 event debuted the fair’s first collectible pin, offering attendees a new souvenir option. Additionally, the National Indian Relay Championships took place over five days, featuring competition among 23 teams. The Birdinground Team was crowned the 2026 national champion during the tournament.
Future Plans
The Eastern Idaho State Fair is scheduled to return next year from Sept. 3 through Sept. 11, 2027. That upcoming event will mark the fair’s 125th anniversary, a milestone that organizers are preparing to celebrate.
