Davis Steps Down as Idaho U.S. Attorney

Bart Davis announced his retirement from the position of United States Attorney for the District of Idaho. His final day on the job is scheduled for October 17.

The departure marks the end of a second tenure in federal law enforcement leadership for Davis. President Donald Trump nominated him to return to the role on March 31, 2025. The U.S. Senate confirmed his appointment on October 7, just days before he announced his intent to step down.

Davis previously served as the top federal prosecutor in Idaho from September 2017 to February 2021. In that capacity, he oversaw the office responsible for enforcing federal laws across the state.

Criminal Case Volume

Under Davis’s leadership during his recent term, the U.S. Attorney’s Office filed 298 criminal cases in the past year. Those filings resulted in charges against 337 defendants.

The caseload was dominated by drug trafficking and violent crimes. Approximately 103 of the cases involved drug trafficking, while 89 focused on violent crime. The office also pursued 69 immigration cases and 22 fraud cases.

Notable Sentences

The office secured several significant convictions during this period. Juan Carlos Delfin received a 30-year prison sentence for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. Shone Jem Bache was sentenced to 210 months in prison for sexual abuse of a child.

In another case, an unnamed defendant served a five-year sentence for identity theft, wire fraud, and the theft of government funds.

Acknowledgments

Davis expressed appreciation for his colleagues and political allies. He thanked Senators Michael D. Crapo and James E. Risch for their support in confirming his nomination.

“I am unable to overstate the privilege it has been to work with the dedicated and remarkable women and men of the U.S. Attorney’s Office,” Davis said.

“I continue to be grateful to Sen. Michael D. Crapo and Sen. James E. Risch for their continued confidence and trust.”
