A 45-year-old man was booked into Bingham County Jail on Tuesday following a violent confrontation with a homeowner in Aberdeen during potato harvesting season.
Jordan Christopher Gehring faces one count of felony aggravated assault, enhanced by the use of a deadly weapon. The charges carry a maximum penalty of five years in prison, plus an additional 15 years for the enhancement.
Incident Details
Bingham County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a residence near Fairview Road and West 2100 South after receiving an assault report. The homeowner alleged that Gehring drove a Ford F-150 aggressively onto his private property. Investigators noted skid marks indicating the truck had drifted during the maneuver.
The homeowner stated he feared for his life as the vehicle approached. Deputies determined the truck came within five feet of the man at the time of the incident. The homeowner told investigators, “Oh, he was moving.”
According to the report, Gehring allegedly shoved the homeowner and shouted, “Do you know who the f*** I am?” The homeowner then walked away toward a nearby shop. Gehring departed the scene before the homeowner returned.
Conflicting Accounts
Gehring offered a different version of events to law enforcement. He claimed the homeowner had invited him onto the property and threatened to shoot him. Gehring denied nearly striking the homeowner with his pickup truck.
A public defender has been appointed for Gehring. The Idaho State Public Defender’s Office does not comment on active cases.
Court Proceedings
Gehring is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 8 at the Bingham County Courthouse.
