Mexican-Inspired Casa Cafe Brings Sweet Breads and Specialty Drinks to Idaho Falls
IDAHO FALLS — A new coffee shop with a Mexican-inspired menu has opened its doors on the south side of Idaho Falls, offering residents a dining concept its owners say is unlike anything else currently available in the city.
Casa Cafe held its grand opening this past weekend at 3406 South 25th East. Co-owners Monica Mia Cando and Gabriel Gallegos launched the business after a trip to California, where they encountered a variety of Mexican-inspired coffee concepts serving traditional sweets alongside specialty drinks. The pair decided to bring that experience to East Idaho, adding their own creative touches along the way.
A Menu Rooted in Mexican Baking Tradition
The shop’s menu centers on traditional Mexican baked goods and drinks with a cultural flair. A standout item is the cafe’s oversized concha — a classic Mexican sweet bread — which has quickly emerged as a signature offering. The shop also carries pandulce, another Mexican-origin pastry, alongside a lineup of specialty beverages including horchata chai, lattes, and matchas.
Some of the lattes draw inspiration from Duvalin, a popular Mexican candy, giving the drink menu a distinctive character that sets it apart from conventional coffee shops in the area.
“It’s just a different variety of Mexican culture things that we brought into our drinks,” Cando said, adding that she believes the combinations translate well for customers.
A key part of the shop’s identity is its baker, who was brought in from California. Cando noted that he comes from a family with deep roots in the craft. “He makes it from passion and a lot of dedication and love,” she said.
From Idea to Grand Opening
Cando acknowledged that neither she nor her co-owner started out as coffee industry insiders. Learning the trade has been a process, she said, but one the two embraced as they worked toward their opening. The enthusiasm from the grand opening weekend appeared to validate their effort.
“We’re excited because we don’t really have anything like this in Idaho Falls,” Cando said of the response so far.
The arrival of Casa Cafe adds to a growing local business scene in Idaho Falls. With warmer weather settling over the region — including possible record-high temperatures forecast for the area this week — foot traffic at new outdoor-friendly businesses like coffee shops could see an early boost heading into summer.
Casa Cafe is located at 3406 South 25th East in Idaho Falls. Hours and additional details are available on the shop’s Facebook page.
