Two Hospitalized After Four-Vehicle Pileup on I-15 Near Fort Hall in Bingham County

Erin M. Bingham

A chain-reaction wreck on southbound Interstate 15 in Bingham County left two people hospitalized Thursday after a driver attempting to use an interstate crossover triggered a series of collisions involving four vehicles and six occupants.

The crash happened at approximately 10:40 a.m. on June 18, 2026, at milepost 84 near Fort Hall. Idaho State Police say a Pocatello man, 27, was behind the wheel of a 2018 Toyota RAV4 when he turned into the crossover, putting his vehicle directly in the path of southbound traffic.

Sequence of Collisions

The first vehicle to strike the RAV4 was a 2024 Ford Maverick operated by an 84-year-old Pocatello man traveling south on the interstate. That initial impact did not end the incident — it set off a secondary collision when a 2022 BMW, driven by a 65-year-old man from Chubbuck with a 63-year-old Chubbuck woman riding along, hit the Maverick. Moments later, a 2026 Genesis operated by a 60-year-old Cardiff, California, man — with a 59-year-old San Diego woman in the passenger seat — ran into the BMW, completing the four-vehicle sequence.

The driver of the Ford Maverick and the passenger in the Genesis were transported to a hospital for treatment of their injuries. The remaining four occupants were not taken to a medical facility. Investigators noted that every person involved in the crash had been wearing a seat belt, which likely played a role in keeping the overall injury toll from climbing higher across the six people spread among four vehicles.

Emergency Response and Lane Closure

Idaho State Police led the on-scene response, backed by personnel from the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office and Fort Hall EMS. During the course of the investigation and cleanup, the left southbound lane of I-15 was closed for roughly an hour before traffic was allowed to flow normally again.

The segment of I-15 running through the Fort Hall area has historically been a high-traffic corridor connecting eastern Idaho communities to points south, including Pocatello and beyond. Crossover zones on divided interstates present particular hazards when drivers enter them without accounting for high-speed oncoming lanes.

What Comes Next

The Idaho State Police investigation into the crash is ongoing. Authorities have not yet announced whether any citations or criminal referrals will follow, though the RAV4 driver’s crossover maneuver is expected to be a central focus of the review. No updated information on the conditions of the two individuals transported to the hospital has been made public. Motorists traveling the I-15 corridor through Bingham County are urged to exercise caution near crossover points and to maintain awareness of vehicle movements in both directions of travel.
