Storm Brings Overnight Winds and Rain to Eastern Idaho Monday

Eastern Idaho will see a quick shift from mild, mostly dry conditions to overnight wind and rain as a Pacific storm system moves into the region Monday.

Tonight will be dry with patchy fog and lows near 33 degrees. The fog is expected to clear Monday morning, with afternoon temperatures reaching about 60 degrees.

Rain and breezy winds are forecast to arrive late Monday evening. The chance of rain is 80%, with most of the precipitation expected before midnight. Winds across the Snake River Plain could gust between 30 and 40 mph overnight.

Lower elevations are forecast to receive less than 0.10 inches of rain. Mountain areas could collect between 0.20 and 0.30 inches of liquid precipitation, while the Eastern Magic Valley has an 85% chance of remaining completely dry.

Snow levels are expected to fall to about 6,500 feet late Monday night. Mountain passes and peaks could receive one to three inches of snow. Temperatures on valley floors are expected to remain warm enough to keep snow or rain-snow mixtures from sticking.

High terrain near the Continental Divide and in areas between Interstate 15 and the Wyoming border has more than a 65% chance of receiving at least 0.25 inches of liquid precipitation. Showers may continue over higher elevations through midweek.

Another storm system is forecast to strengthen along the Pacific Northwest coast Thursday into Friday. That system is expected to bring cooler temperatures, rain at lower elevations and snow in the mountains.
