A deadly shooting at a Rigby residence on Sunday has left one man dead and another in custody as multiple law enforcement agencies work to piece together what led to the confrontation.
The incident unfolded around noon on Ashlyn Way when two men became involved in a dispute at a house. The conflict escalated, and one of the men fired a gun, striking the other. “The victim was shot in the doorway of the residence. He was treated at the scene and then pronounced dead at the scene,” Rigby Police Chief Allen Fullmer told investigators, as first reported by the EastIdahoNews.com.
Emergency responders arrived to find the victim deceased. The suspect was immediately taken into custody at the scene.
Idaho State Police, the Rexburg Police Department, and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office have all launched an investigation into the shooting. Authorities are withholding the names of both the victim and the suspect pending completion of their inquiry.
The case remains under investigation, and formal charges against the suspect are expected once detectives finish gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses. No additional details about the motive or the relationship between the two men have been released.
What Comes Next: Investigators will continue their work over the coming days. Once the case is complete, the prosecutor’s office will review findings and determine what charges, if any, to bring against the suspect. Community members with information about the incident are encouraged to contact local law enforcement.
