Police Take Juvenile Into Custody After Idaho Falls School Threat Report

A juvenile student was taken into custody Friday morning in Idaho Falls after an offense involving a fight earlier in the week. Idaho Falls Police are also investigating whether the student made a threat involving a gun.

Eagle Rock Middle School and Ethel Boyes Elementary were placed under a Hall Check after a report that a student referenced bringing a gun to school. Police said there is no evidence a gun was brought onto either campus.

During a Hall Check, students stay in classrooms while instruction continues. Idaho Falls School District 91 sent an alert about the precaution around 10:40 a.m. The district notified parents at 11:20 a.m. that the Hall Check had ended after the student was taken into custody.

Police spokesperson Jessica Clements said the department was notified of a threat rumor and investigates such reports seriously. District representative Karla LaOrange said student and staff safety remains the district’s top priority.

The Idaho Falls Police Department said the investigation remains active.
