Idaho Falls Police Department investigators concluded there was no firearm involved in an alleged threat at Longfellow Elementary School this week.
District 91 Superintendent Karla LaOrange informed parents via email on Friday that the situation had been resolved. The school district received a report Thursday afternoon stating a student brought a gun to campus earlier in the week.
The allegation stemmed from a claim that one student showed another a firearm and threatened them and their family. School administrators immediately contacted law enforcement to verify the safety of students and staff.
Police officers conducted a thorough investigation, which included verifying the home environment of the accused student. IFPD spokeswoman Jessica Clements confirmed on Saturday morning that authorities found no evidence supporting the claim.
“IFPD has verified that the accused student does not have access to firearms,” Clements said.
The alleged incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday. Despite the initial report, investigators determined that no weapon was brought onto school grounds and no verbal threat matching the description was substantiated.
LaOrange emphasized the district’s commitment to transparency and safety. “IFPD has determined that there was no credible threat,” she wrote in her message to families.
The investigation involved coordination between Longfellow administration staff and Idaho Falls police officers. Both agencies agreed that the school environment remained secure throughout the process.
No disciplinary actions or further legal proceedings were mentioned in the official communications. The district returned to normal operations following the conclusion of the inquiry.
