Outdoor FitFest event planned in Idaho Falls on Saturday

Outdoor FitFest Event Set for Saturday Morning at Idaho Falls Waterfront

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho — Residents looking to get active this weekend have a community-focused opportunity on the calendar. The 2000s FitFest is scheduled for Saturday morning at the Idaho Falls Waterfront, offering a free-spirited fitness festival with a nostalgic twist and something for attendees of all fitness levels.

The event was organized by local fitness instructor Paulina Gonzalez, who says her goal is to help people build community through shared physical activity. FitFest is set to run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will feature Zumba, High Fitness, and mobility exercises — all wrapped in what Gonzalez describes as “a full 2000’s throwback vibe.”

A Community Built Through Fitness

Gonzalez’s path to becoming a certified fitness instructor started at a backyard gathering. A casual moment on the dance floor led to a life-changing nudge from her sister.

“We were having a barbecue at a friend’s house,” Gonzalez said. “And as we were playing music, I started dancing. And she told me I would be a good Zumba instructor, and I made it happen.”

Gonzalez earned her certification last September and has been building toward an event like FitFest ever since. Her vision is rooted in making fitness more accessible, engaging, and social — breaking down the barriers that keep many residents from pursuing an active lifestyle.

The event reflects a broader desire among East Idaho community members to connect outside the walls of a gym. Community-centered events across Eastern Idaho, from youth learning celebrations to neighborhood gatherings, have drawn strong participation from Bonneville County families in recent weeks, underscoring the region’s appetite for in-person engagement.

What to Expect at FitFest

Beyond the workout sessions themselves, Saturday’s FitFest promises a full festival atmosphere. According to a news release, the event will include local vendor booths, snacks and drinks, a Y2K-themed 360-degree photo booth, and over $1,000 in prizes and giveaways.

The Y2K theme adds a fun element of nostalgia, channeling early 2000s pop culture energy into the workout environment. Attendees are encouraged to embrace the throwback atmosphere alongside the physical activity.

Gonzalez noted that FitFest is sponsored by several companies she has partnered with previously. “For this event, they’re mainly supporting me and what I’m building, and I’ll be promoting them throughout it,” she said. The sponsorships help offset the costs of staging the event and funding the prize pool.

Participation does require a ticket, which can be purchased through Eventbrite.com. The three-hour window from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. gives attendees ample time to sample the various workout styles, visit vendor booths, and enter giveaways.

Idaho Falls has seen a strong spring season for community athletics and outdoor events. The Idaho Falls Tigers Softball team recently earned their first conference win of the season in a 14-11 thriller, reflecting a community that values athletic participation at every level — from high school competitors to residents simply looking to get off the couch and move.

What Comes Next

Saturday’s 2000s FitFest at the Idaho Falls Waterfront begins at 10 a.m. Tickets must be purchased in advance through Eventbrite.com. Organizers have not yet announced whether the event will become a recurring fixture on the Idaho Falls community calendar, but Gonzalez’s momentum since earning her certification last fall suggests Saturday’s gathering could be the beginning of something larger for fitness-focused community building in Bonneville County. Residents interested in attending are encouraged to secure tickets ahead of the event and arrive ready to move.
