A 58-year-old McCammon man has died from complications related to severe injuries sustained during a house fire earlier this month, the Bannock County Coroner’s Office confirmed.
Lance Talbot was airlifted to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls after emergency responders pulled him from a burning mobile home near U.S. Highway 91 and Dixon Road on the evening of July 2. He remained hospitalized for 10 days before succumbing to his injuries on Sunday.
Authorities received a 911 call from the homeowner that evening reporting the fire. When responders arrived, Talbot was trapped in the rear bedroom with dogs. A Bannock County sheriff’s deputy and a nearby resident worked together to extract him from the structure before medical personnel transported him by helicopter to the regional medical center.
The coroner’s office attributed Talbot’s death to a combination of fire-related injuries and preexisting medical conditions. The mobile home was a complete loss.
Other family members occupied the residence but were not present at the time the fire broke out.
The incident underscores the dangers posed by residential fires in Bonneville County and surrounding areas. Earlier this summer, fire danger in the Upper Snake River Valley peaked during a Red Flag Warning period, heightening concerns about structure fires and wildfire risk across the region.
What Comes Next: Investigators will continue to determine the cause of the fire. Residents in the McCammon and surrounding Bannock County communities are encouraged to ensure working smoke detectors are installed in their homes and to develop evacuation plans in case of emergency.
