Little Pauses Dyed Diesel Inspections for 30 Days

Governor Brad Little signed an executive order suspending state inspections of dyed diesel fuel for 30 days to assist agricultural operations during harvest season.

The directive instructs the Idaho State Police and the Idaho Transportation Department to halt enforcement actions related to these specific fuel checks. Dyed diesel is primarily utilized in farming equipment and carries distinct regulatory requirements compared to standard on-road vehicle fuel.

“Idaho farmers and ranchers work hard to feed our families, our country, and the world,” Little said regarding the temporary relief for agricultural producers.

The governor framed the action as part of broader efforts aligned with President Donald Trump’s administration to reduce regulatory burdens on working Idahoans. While state-level inspections are paused, the order does not override federal regulations, laws from neighboring states, or manufacturer warranty conditions that may still apply to drivers and businesses.

During this suspension period, state agencies will evaluate current fuel inspection protocols. Officials plan to compare Idaho’s policies with those of adjacent states and develop recommendations for potential long-term adjustments to the regulatory framework.
