Intermountain Health announced Friday it intends to become the sole owner of Idaho Falls Community Hospital while also acquiring a partial ownership stake in Mountain View Hospital, consolidating its footprint across one of East Idaho’s most significant healthcare networks.
The Salt Lake City-based nonprofit health system plans to purchase the ownership share held by Surgery Partners, a Nashville-based company, in a network that has operated under a three-way collaborative ownership structure since 2023. That arrangement included Intermountain Health, Surgery Partners, and a group of local physicians.
A Major Healthcare Network in Bonneville County
The network at the center of this transaction is substantial. It encompasses two hospitals — Idaho Falls Community Hospital and Mountain View Hospital — along with more than 60 affiliate clinics serving patients across the region. Combined, the network employs approximately 2,300 physicians and caregivers, making it one of the largest healthcare employers in Bonneville County and East Idaho.
The deal still requires standard regulatory clearances, physician board approvals, and other closing conditions before it becomes final. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
James Adamson, CEO of both Mountain View Hospital and Community Hospital, expressed confidence in the transition. “Intermountain Health is already an investor in both hospitals and has deep roots in our region,” Adamson said. “They believe in our vision and our teams, and they want to empower us to continue delivering the personalized care our organizations are known for.”
Adamson’s remarks signal that the move is seen locally as a continuation of existing relationships rather than an outside takeover. Intermountain Health has been part of the ownership structure since 2023, giving it an established presence and familiarity with how both facilities operate.

Despite the change in ownership structure, day-to-day operations at the Idaho Falls facilities are expected to remain stable. According to details released with the announcement, the hospitals will continue to be managed by their existing leadership team. The system manages dozens of hospitals and hundreds of clinics, and also operates Select Health, an affiliated insurance plan.
