Idaho Falls Launches Annual Clean and Green Citywide Cleanup with Free Dump Sites in May
Idaho Falls Residents Can Dispose of Unwanted Items at No Cost Throughout May
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho — The City of Idaho Falls is kicking off its annual Clean & Green citywide cleanup initiative, giving residents across the community a free and convenient way to dispose of unwanted household goods, yard waste, and construction debris throughout the month of May. The effort is a partnership between the Idaho Falls Code Enforcement and Idaho Falls Sanitation Division, and runs across three consecutive weekends beginning May 7.
Cleanup sites will be open to the public Thursday through Saturday each week, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with dumpsters on-site and city staff available to help residents sort and properly dispose of their items. The initiative is designed to make neighborhood cleanup easy and accessible for all Idaho Falls households, regardless of where they live in the city.
The program reflects the kind of community-driven, locally managed effort that keeps Idaho Falls neighborhoods looking their best — reducing blight, supporting property values, and encouraging civic pride without placing additional burden on individual residents.
Where and When to Drop Off Your Items
The City has designated six locations across Idaho Falls, rotating by weekend to serve different parts of the community:
May 7–9:
- Sweeper Dump, at the intersection of Lake Avenue, North Boulevard, and K Street
- Russ Freeman Park, accessed off Fremont Avenue (glass recycling bin available)
May 14–16:
- Aquatic Center parking lot, corner of 7th Street and Lee Avenue
- Mel Erickson Sunnyside Park, north side of Sunnyside
May 21–23:
- Garfield Substation, at the intersection of Northeast Bonneville Drive and Garfield Street
- Old Butte Soccer Complex, maintenance shed at 425 N Old Butte Road
Each site will be staffed by code enforcement officers and sanitation personnel, who will assist community members with proper sorting to ensure materials are handled responsibly.
What Cannot Be Accepted — and Where to Take It
Residents should be aware that not all materials can be accepted at the neighborhood cleanup sites. Hazardous waste, demolition materials, tires, large appliances, and select metals are among the items that will require alternative disposal arrangements.
For household hazardous waste — including paint thinner, batteries, fertilizer, and antifreeze — residents can bring those materials to the Bonneville County Transfer Station at 2455 Hemmert Ave. on May 9 and again on September 12. The city encourages residents to review the official Clean & Green flyer for a complete list of accepted and non-accepted materials before loading up their vehicles.
Spring is also a natural time to take stock of the broader community environment. Locals who have followed the return of ospreys to their rebuilt nest along the Snake River know that Idaho Falls residents take their surroundings seriously — and programs like Clean & Green reflect that same sense of stewardship.
What Comes Next
The Clean & Green initiative continues through the final weekend of May, with the last cleanup events scheduled for May 21–23 at the Garfield Substation and Old Butte Soccer Complex sites. Residents are encouraged to start gathering unwanted items now to take advantage of the free disposal opportunity before the program ends for the season.
For full details on disposal guidelines, accepted materials, and additional drop-off options, residents can visit the City of Idaho Falls website or review the official Clean & Green informational flyer. With warmer weather bringing more outdoor activity across Bonneville County, city officials are also encouraging neighbors to spread the word and help make this year’s cleanup effort the most successful yet.
As Idaho Falls heads into a busy spring — with community events like the upcoming new exhibit at the Art Museum of Eastern Idaho drawing residents out and about — keeping neighborhoods clean and welcoming remains a shared priority for the city and its residents.
