A damaged power line on Neptune Drive triggered a widespread outage across Idaho Falls on Monday evening, affecting approximately 2,500 Idaho Falls Power customers on the west side of the city.
The outage began around 5:45 p.m. Dispatch personnel responded by isolating the affected section of line and closing the breaker to contain the problem. Crews arrived onsite to begin repair work while dispatch staff performed switching and rerouting operations to restore service to the impacted area.
By 6:38 p.m., about 450 customers remained without electricity. At that time, the utility had not yet provided an estimated restoration timeline, according to available reports.
The outage on Neptune Drive left a significant portion of the city’s west side in the dark, marking a notable service disruption for the region’s primary municipal utility.
The Neptune Drive incident was not the only power disruption affecting the greater Idaho Falls area that evening. Rocky Mountain Power reported separate outages on its system: nearly 300 customers near Ammon experienced service loss, while more than 500 customers in the Rigby area also lost power during the same timeframe.
The cause of the downed line on Neptune Drive was not immediately disclosed. Idaho Falls Power crews worked through the evening to complete repairs and restore full service.
