Boy Dies, Adult Airlifted After Pickup Rollover on Shoshone-Bannock Tribal Land Near Fort Hall

Fire engine responding

A juvenile male was killed and an adult man critically injured Saturday afternoon when a pickup truck rolled over in the Fort Hall Bottoms area of Shoshone-Bannock tribal land in southeastern Idaho, authorities confirmed.

The crash was reported at approximately 2:45 p.m. Both occupants were ejected from the vehicle during the rollover. The boy died from his injuries at the scene, while the adult male was transported by air ambulance for emergency medical treatment. His condition was not immediately disclosed beyond the serious nature of his injuries.

Fort Hall Police Chief Patrick Teton confirmed the outcome in a public statement, saying the juvenile “succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash and was pronounced deceased.” The boy’s family has been notified of his death.

Fort Hall Bottoms is a rural area situated west and northwest of the Fort Hall community, within the boundaries of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes’ reservation. The area’s remote terrain can complicate emergency response times and access for medical personnel.

Investigation Underway

Idaho State Police are leading the crash investigation, with the Fort Hall Police Department also responding to the scene. As of the time of the incident report, authorities had not released the identities or ages of either occupant, and the cause of the crash or any contributing factors had not been publicly disclosed.

A single-vehicle rollover resulting in ejections typically prompts investigators to examine speed, road conditions, seatbelt use, and any potential impairment, though none of those factors had been confirmed or ruled out in this case.

What Comes Next

Idaho State Police are expected to release additional findings as the investigation progresses. Investigators will likely reconstruct the crash to determine what caused the truck to leave its course and whether any safety violations played a role. No timeline for a formal report or further public statement has been announced.

The death marks another serious public safety incident in the Fort Hall area in recent months. A fatal shooting in Fort Hall earlier this year also drew law enforcement attention to the region, underscoring ongoing public safety concerns on and near the reservation.

Anyone with information about the crash or who may have witnessed the incident is encouraged to contact Idaho State Police or the Fort Hall Police Department.
