A fire that broke out Saturday afternoon in Idaho Falls caused an estimated $10,000 in damage to a manufactured home and destroyed or damaged numerous vehicles and outbuildings in the area.
The blaze started at approximately 1:30 p.m. near West Broadway Street and Trolley Way. Firefighters arriving at the scene found flames affecting the exterior of a small manufactured home, along with several surrounding structures and parked equipment.
The fire damaged a 2016 Honda Civic, a motorhome, multiple trailers, a boat, a garden shed, a maintenance truck, and two snowmobiles that were on a trailer. The flames also destroyed roughly 200 feet of cedar fencing and affected nearby trees and outbuildings.
Idaho Falls Fire Department spokeswoman Hayli Egbert credited the swift response of firefighting crews with preventing worse destruction. “Firefighters stopped the blaze before it extended into the interior of the manufactured home, limiting damage to the exterior siding and rear of the structure,” she said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the department.
The incident adds to the demands on local emergency services, which handle more than 40 calls daily across the region. Summer months often bring heightened fire risk to Southeast Idaho, particularly during periods of extreme heat that increase the potential for rapid fire spread. The county has previously enacted burn restrictions in response to fire danger concerns.
What Comes Next
The Idaho Falls Fire Department continues its investigation into the cause of the fire. Residents in the area should remain vigilant about fire safety practices and monitor any updates from local authorities regarding seasonal fire restrictions or weather-related hazards.
